Introduction to Paddlesport

Learn the introductory paddlesport skills in either a kayak or open canoe, building on the fundamentals of paddlesport, posture, connectivity, power, feel. Transferring these fundamentals into the strokes used to paddle and manoeuvre the craft.

During the day we will look at the following to ensure to get the maximum out of the experience.

  • Personal equipment – Correctly fitted buoyancy aid, correct fit of boat, paddle length
  • Personal Paddling Skills – Lifting, carrying and launching, forward paddling, backward paddling and stopping the craft
  • Rescue Skills – What do in the event of a capsize

All rescue skills will be performed at the end of the day and will be dependant upon prevailing weather conditions.

The day is delivered at a flat water (weather dependant) environment overseen by a qualified British Canoeing coach.

Course Itinerary

The itinerary for the day can be built around your wants and needs of the discipline based upon your previous skills and experience. In general terms for someone who has very little knowledge of paddlesport the following sample itinerary will give a guide.

  • Fundamentals of paddlesport, posture, connectivity, power, feel

You will need to supply all of your own equipment for the course including the following.
